Lions Leave Northern California 1-1 With Loss to Tigers

Story STOCKTON, CA – The LMU Lions ended their Northern California road trip by falling to the Pacific Tigers, 73-52.
The Lions had plenty of good shot attempts in the first quarter, but the shots just didn’t fall. Although LMU was 4-14 from the field, the Lions were aggressive crashing the boards. LMU returned to Pacific by two (10-8). Amaya Oliver led the Lions with eight rebounds.
In the second quarter, the Tigers extended their lead by 13 points. Most of Pacific’s points came from the free throw line shooting 4-6.
Cassandra Gordon led the Lions with six points in the second quarter and finished with a total of 15 points in the final.
At the end of the first half, the Lions trailed the Tigers, 19-30.
LMU started the second half at 6-6 with jumpers by Ariel Johnson and Alexis Mark bringing the Lions within six, 24-30. The defensive effort the Lions showed coming out of the quarter was impressive, as well as forcing the Tigers to turn the ball over several times.
Johnson scored most of her points this quarter (9) as she finished the game with 15 points.
Despite the turnovers the Lions cost the Tigers, Pacific would again score 22 points in the top three LMU, 52-37.
In the fourth, Pacific continued to out score LMU shooting 53.3% (8-15) and eventually winning the game, 73-52.
The Lions next game will be Jan. 12 against the BYU Cougars at Gersten Pavilion.
