Justin Long and Kate Bosworth confirmed their engagement on Tuesday’s episode of Justin Long’s Life is Short podcast.

As it turns out, the Accepted star, 44, planned to propose to the Blue Crush actress, 40, on her birthday in January, but it didn’t happen.

But first, the couple addressed why they decided to tell their proposal story on the podcast.

“I think we’re both deciding to share this in this space because maybe we’re going to be asked about it and we thought, ‘Well, how can we talk about it in a way that makes us feel better,’ and we thought, “Oh, I’d really like to talk about that with you,” Kate explained.

And Justin responded with the reason that his carefully planned plan derailed into something completely different, but even more beautiful.

“I have planned something special around you [Kate’s] birthday and about a month before that, life, as we were talking about, things change, and sometimes they change very drastically without any warning, – said the Jeepers Creepers actor.

He continued: “It was a moment where it just felt so organic and it felt connected to something very, very deeply, deeply personal that we were going through, like a real-life change, and so it came out in a very organic way. .’

Justin and Kate first sparked romance rumors in the spring of 2021 after they met on a film project in Arkansas and hit it off right from the start.

And Kate stepped in to give listeners a little background on the romantic moment.

“We had just gone through this really hard thing and we had talked to a therapist and we were trying to work through things at the time and she gave us some really great advice which was: Make sure you’re constantly asking. what the other person needs, or ask the other person what they need,” she explained.

She continued: “I remember waking up not too many mornings after that therapy session and looking at Justin and saying…I remember smiling at him and saying, ‘What do you need?’ she said.

“And he really looked at me and said, ‘I want to spend my life with you.'” And I smiled and said, “Well, yeah, you’ve got it. Oh my god, you’ve got it,’ and he said, ‘No, I mean I really want to spend my life with you,’” she added.

Justin found the moment to be completely natural, organic and perfect.

“It was easier … the words just came out, like, so naturally,” he said.

“I thought it was the most romantic, sincere and loving proposal,” added Kate.

Last month, the couple sparked engagement rumors during a PDA-filled appearance at the Vanity Fair Oscars party.

And Justin shared a tribute to his wife-to-be in January when she turned 40.

The “Idiocracy” star wrote a long and heartfelt tribute to Bosworth in the caption of his birthday post for her, which featured multiple photos of the pair looking smitten.

“She’s 40!” trumpeted Long. “She’s also the best part of my day, every day — even when we’re not together.”

Justin went on to describe The Horse Whisperer star as ‘the most beautiful human being [he’s] ever seen who makes the best cookies.
