Priscilla Presley and Lisa Marie were “barely speaking” before the latter’s death, after she sided with her daughter’s ex-husband, Michael Lockwood, during a bitter custody battle over their twins.

Multiple sources told People that the mother, 77, and daughter, 54, had not spoken before Lisa Marie’s Jan. 12 death from cardiac arrest, despite appearing at many events together, including the Elvis biopic.

Lisa Marie reportedly resented her mother for siding with ex-husband Michael Lockwood, 61, as the pair battled for custody of their twins Harper and Finley in 2016.

“Riley was always on her mother’s side when it came to Michael,” a source told People. “It bothered him that Grandma and Michael flew together to the funeral.”

Priscilla also helped Michael into the ceremony, despite her late daughter’s wishes.

“Michael was not invited,” a close friend of Lisa Marie told the magazine. “He came to Memphis under the pretense that he had to go after the twins — and he forced his way in with Priscilla’s help.

During the 2019 custody battle, Lisa Marie filed an amendment to her living trust, making Riley and her late son Benjamin Keough her heirs, removing Priscilla and her former manager Barry Siegel as co-trustees . Priscilla filed a petition to question the ‘authenticity and validity’ of the trust after she claimed Lisa Marie’s signature was ‘inconsistent’. She filed the claim in a Los Angeles court just days after her daughter’s memorial service.

The grandmother-of-four also claimed she was unaware that Lisa Marie had changed her faith in 2016 until after her daughter died.

If Priscilla’s petition prevails, she and Riley will become co-trustees of Lisa Marie’s estate, but neither wants the other’s influence, a source said.

Lisa Marie, a singer-songwriter like her father, was not rich enough to make Forbes’ list of highest-paid artists, while several celebrity websites estimated she may have had a negative net worth at her death .

The singer still owned Graceland through a trust, which will now be inherited by her children, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing a Graceland spokesperson.

A detailed look at her financial situation emerged in 2018 when she sued Siegel alleging he had mismanaged her finances, resulting in her $100 million trust dwindling to $14,000 in cash by 2016.

The lawsuit also alleged that Lisa Marie had racked up $500,000 in credit card debt, according to Reuters.

Beginning in 2005, Lisa Marie suffered an ’11-year odyssey to financial ruin,’ the lawsuit alleged.

“Lisa has been damaged in an amount that has not yet been fully ascertained, but is believed to be over $100 million.”

The lawsuit followed her divorce from musician Michael Lockwood being finalized in 2021.

During the divorce proceedings, Lisa Marie claimed she was $16 million in debt, most of which stemmed from unpaid taxes, according to TMZ.

Priscilla blamed the main cause of her financial difficulties on a 2005 deal to sell an 85 percent stake in the Elvis Presley Estate (EPE) to CKX, an entertainment company that also owned the TV show “American Idol.”

She received $50 million plus stock in CKX, along with retaining a 15 percent interest in EPE as well as title to Graceland, the Associated Press reported at the time.

CKX was later sold to Apollo Global Management for $509 million.

Lisa Marie’s lawsuit alleged that Siegel put his financial interests ahead of hers, alleging that he bought a $9 million English home using trust money.

Meanwhile, Siegel countered in his lawsuit that Lisa Marie’s financial problems were due to her mistakes. The lawsuit claimed she had twice ‘squandered’ her inheritance and blamed her ‘wasteful ways’, Reuters said.

But Lisa Marie, who was nine years old when her father died, remains the sole owner of Graceland, and her 15 percent stake in EPE is likely to continue to generate steady income.
