There’s one part of elementary school that most people on TikTok would love to block if they could: anything related to Kumo.

According to the company’s website, the Kumon Method of Learning is a worksheet-based study program “designed to help every child of every ability progress to their maximum potential and become enthusiastic learners” in math and science subjects. reading.

While it is an optional program taken outside of school, it has numerous learning centers around the world where students can go after school or on weekends to strengthen their skills.

But according to most people on TikTok, it was also kind of the worst.

“Raise your hand if you’re a kumon victim,” wrote @pmanda_ after sharing a video they took of seeing a Kumon location in England.

That alone prompted a flood of responses from others who clearly felt the same way.

“I was a victim of a scam,” one person confirmed.

“Biggest trauma of my life,” said another.

“Kumoni is the most depressing thing you can do to your child,” declared another person.

The program made quite an impression on people – some of whom said their parents would “threaten” them with Kumon worksheets or even make them take the worksheets with them on vacation. One person called it “hell”.

“I scream in despair every time I see one in the wild,” commented one TikToker.

“I am traumatized by the 2 hours taken from me every evening, not to mention the 3 hours at the little church I had to go to every Thursday for my posters,” said another.

But not everyone took it for the learning program. Some people said it helped them.

“Ok, I hated it, but I’m not going to lie it really helped me with my math skills,” one person admitted.

“It really works if the student puts in the effort,” wrote someone else who said the program “meets you where you are.”

Another person said it was the only reason they have any kind of mathematical ability today.
