New hotel-casino proposal on the Las Vegas Strip could fill void on resort corridor

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A proposal for a lodge and on line casino on the Las Vegas Strip acquired the inexperienced mild from Clark County officers, although there isn’t any timeline for when development could start.

The Clark County Zoning Commission permitted a proposal from Tilman Fertitta and Fertitta Entertainment, which owns and represents the Golden Nugget casinos, the Houston Rockets and dozens of restaurant chains throughout the nation. Dr. Amanda Belarmino, UNLV William F. Harrah College of Hospitality assistant professor, explains why there may be a market for another property in the area — which has become a hotbed for sports and live entertainment, flanked by Allegiant Stadium, T -Mobile Arena, and Michelob Ultra Arena.

“It would make a number of sense to place one other property there if the Tropicana comes off the market,” Belarmino said, addressing rumors that a potential Oakland A’s stadium could be built on the iconic Vintage Vegas property.

“We know there’s a number of potential as we go ahead with the Raiders and the Golden Knights, after which in fact, the Super Bowl,” she said.

Fans of Golden Nugget properties in downtown Las Vegas, Laughlin and around the country can provide a ready base of travelers looking for a stay on the Las Vegas Strip. “Fertitta properties are widely located in other parts of the US. So those consumers that have loyalty points that want to come to Las Vegas — that would be a draw for them,” Belarmino stated.

Company representatives could not present a timeline for demolition or development. A lawyer for the property promised that any development wouldn’t intrude with Formula 1 initiatives or Resort Corridor roadworks.
