The Grand Salon at The Baccarat Hotel New York

Along with the cost of eggs, the price of afternoon tea in New York has just hit an all-time high.
Baccarat Hotel New York recently launched The Crystal Tea, the most expensive tea service in the city. Tea for two at the French crystal brand’s flagship Manhattan property costs $3,000.
The menu, service and ambience are a bold departure in every respect from the traditional English tea service. That’s because Michelin-starred chef Gabriel Keuther and Baccarat executive chef Ali Dey Daly have reimagined afternoon tea to reflect the legendary crystal brand’s legacy of creating masterpieces for generations of royalty.
Crystal Tea is served daily from 12pm to 4pm in the luxurious Grand Lounge, an intimate space with cozy nooks and plush, high-shouldered banquettes.
Decorated in a neutral color palette of platinum and champagne, the elegant room seems to be dripping in mirrors and crystal. Custom-designed Baccarat chandeliers hang from the 35-foot-high ceiling casting a warm glow on the silk-draped walls.

The stunning menu offers both savouries and desserts, including delights such as Patrosian caviar, fresh Alba white truffle, Jambo Iberico de Bellota, Kobe beef and lobster. Sweet choices include a Sacher Torte, Bakewell Tart made with Madagascar vanilla beans and warm homemade tarts with Devonshire cream.
All these flavors and more are presented on a three-tiered Baccarat crystal server along with two glasses of Cristal Roederer 2012 champagne and a selection of teas.
Why would anyone pay $3,000 for tea, even at one of the most stunning hotels in New York City?
“Tea is truly ‘immersed in luxury,’ with high ingredients in the sparkling setting of the Grand Salon,” says Chef Dey Daly. “It’s the ultimate example of a truly first tea for a king or queen.”
A custom “doggie bag”.

The strange pot is gilded with fine gold and decorated with incised geometric patterns. Her porcelain body is made by luxury Spanish brand Maison Lladro, with a lid in the shape of an imaginary creature.
