UFC Vegas 67: Strickland vs. Imavov live results, discussion, play by play

The main event for this fight night will take place in the heavyweight division, with late replacement Sean Strickland replacing Kelvin Gastelum to meet rising contender Nassourdine Imavov. The bout was supposed to go down to middleweight, but due to the last-minute attack, Strickland weighed almost 10 pounds heavier than Imavov. We’ll find out if that makes any difference in the Octagon tonight.
This will be an ESPN+ show but will start a little earlier than usual. The six-game preliminary card is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM ET/1:00 PM PT on ESPN+. The five-fight main card is also on ESPN+, and is slated to begin at 7:00 PM ET/4:00 PM PT. For areas outside the United States, you can catch all scheduled bouts on UFC Fight Pass.

Sean Strickland vs. Nassourdine Imavov
Round 1 – Strickland closes the distance almost immediately. It lands right over the top. Nice quick left hook from Imavov. He is checking the distance now. Strickland with a nice 1-2. Even kicks. Right shoe from Imavov. Short elbow by Strickland. Light blow inside the leg. Imavov gets in but doesn’t go down. Strickland lands a counter in the next exchange. He’s bringing the pressure now. Both lose with big shots. Strickland pushes his opponent into the cage wall. Not for long, they break. Front kick by Imavov. Short left from Strickland. Big right shoe. Wild from Imavov lands, Strickland is countering better. 10-9 Strickland.
Round 2 – Slow start, mostly just low shots and tees. Strickland clotheslines Imamov against the cage and goes down inside. They break up and Strickland lands the finishing blow of a combination. Imavov takes it back. They trade. Strickland goes down and hits a nice trip takedown, but Imamov pops up right away. They fight on the fence. They trade rights. Collect. Strickland goes down on the break. They both falter and miss. Imamov connects and Strickland pushes him into the fence. They break and Imavov scores a short kick. Close, but I’ll go 10-9 Strickland.
Round 3 – Strickland with a combo. Imamov fires back but eats a counter. Imavov now looks a little brave. Strickland isn’t overpowering him, he’s just a little slow. Strickland is hitting him with inside leg kicks and chops. Strickland with a counter left. Not much going on here. Strickland grabs, but Imavov immediately breaks it up. Imamov rolls up but Strickland blocks it. 10-9 Strickland.
Round 4 – Strickland lands a straight right. He goes the head of the body. Another right. Both throw and miss. Front body kick by Strickland, and a dropkick. Nice kick from Imamov. Low kicks. Strickland with a quick left. Right from Imamov. Strickland lands a body. Much better pace than the last round. Takedown attempt by Strickland but nada. They fight on the fence. Imamov reverses and lands an elbow on the break. 1-2 by Strickland. Imamov circles away. Strickland with a counter combo. Nice shot. Another 1-2. 10-9 Strickland.
Round 5 – They trade short shots. Nice landing by Imavov as Strickland backs off. Imamov with two counters. Strickland puts Imamov on the fence. He backs off as Imamov throws big elbows. Return to the clinic. Imamov with a knee to the body and a short right. Wide lie to the left by Imavov. Strickland ties him up again. Return to the center. Both men are a bit tired and the lack of accuracy is showing. Short elbow by Imavov as Strickland tries to tie him up. Nicely left by Strickland. Imavov with another knee to the body. He lands a short right. Uppercut. Strickland just tries to bring him closer. 10-9 Imavov but 49-46 Strickland.
