Austin McGovern, 24, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on December 23, 2022. Raised in Lewiston, he was the beloved son of Daniel and Mary (Fontanarosa) McGovern.
Austin was a 2016 graduate of Lewiston Porter High School and received his Welding Certification from NCCC. For the past three and a half years, he was employed by the Niagara Falls Water Board, where he loved what he did, but loved his colleagues even more. This special group of friends became a second family to him. Prior to that, Austin worked at Coppins Service Center in Lewiston, always proud of the new mechanical skills he learned from Jay.
An avid outdoorsman, Austin enjoyed hunting, target shooting, four-wheeling and off-roading in his Jeep. Austin and his father worked on many projects together where he learned more about life and love than anything else.
Austin shared a special bond with his grandparents; spending time with them was a constant in his life. He cherished the time spent with his family, especially his brother Daniel, Christina and precious grandchildren, Danny and Mack.
Austin will be greatly remembered for his kind spirit and heart of gold. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten in the hearts of his loving family and countless friends.
In addition to his parents, Austin is survived by his brother, Daniel (Christina) McGovern, Jr.; his nephews, Daniel III and Mack McGovern; paternal grandparents, Raymond and Lucia McGovern; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins ​​and dear friends. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Guido and Antoinette Fontanarosa.
Visitation will be Friday, December 30th from 3 – 8:00 PM at MJ COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Austin’s Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. Please gather at the church. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
