West Texas A&M Leaves the Corky Classic with Impressive Marks

History ties CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M Track & Field left the 2023 Corky Classic with 14 different Top-10 finishes during the final day of competition at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas.
The Lady Buffs placed three in the top-10 in the women’s long jump to start the day highlighted by a mark of 5.86m (19-2.75) by Miriam Zanovello to finish third followed by Daniela Pesic in fifth at 5.67m (18-7.25). The mile run saw three WT student-athletes inside the top-10 with Eleonora Curtabbi’s 4:55.40 good enough for third place overall followed by Florance Uwajeneza in fifth in 5:03.54.
WT impressed in the triple jump as Taylor Nelloms posted a mark of 12.76m (41-10.5) to finish second followed by Zanovello’s 12.24m (40-2) to finish third. WT closed out the meet with a time of 3:58.74 by the relay team of Moillet Kouakou, Leah Belfield, Jordanae’ Scott, Jordan Brown to finish 11th.
On the men’s side, the mile run saw a pair of Buffs inside the top-10 highlighted by a 4:20.18 from Louis Moreau to finish fourth overall. The 60-meter dash saw Isaac Botsio record a time of 6.70 to finish fifth as the only non-D1 runner in the finals. Joseph Manu took seventh place in the 200m finals as the Ghanaian ran 20.99.
Luke Holcombe impressed for the Buffs in the men’s shot put as the sophomore from Floydada recorded the second-best indoor throw in program history of 17.37m (57-0) in his final effort to finish second overall in this race.
WT returns to the track next Saturday as they head to Albuquerque, New Mexico to participate in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. hosted by the University of New Mexico.
