Seattle Seahawks ‘Foolish’? Re-Sign QB Geno Smith, Says ESPN’s Mina Kimes

We believe in all fairness, the question “What should be done about Geno Smith?” is a challenging question.
Is this season a “lot”? ‘
However, ESPN’s Mina Kimes — who happens to be a keen Seahawks watcher — believes there’s more clarity here than meets the eye, suggesting Seattle would be “foolish” to break away from the NFL’s top contender for ” Comeback Player of the Year”.
In a recent video visit to ESPN.com (transcribed by YardBarker), Kimes makes her case …
“I believe Geno Smith will be with the Seahawks next season,” Kimes said. “That’s not to say there’s no chance they draft a quarterback … (Smith could) be their bridge quarterback with a young quarterback. I also think, though, it’s possible that they like what they’ve seen from him enough to extend him … Geno Smith has been absolutely outstanding, exceeded expectations for the Seahawks, and I think it would be foolish to they were to depart from it entirely even with some of the last battles.”
Over Cap suggests Smith’s next deal could be worth the aforementioned $37 million per season. … and we still believe this is an issue that makes this a tougher call than Kimes sees it.
Furthermore – and we don’t want to cheat here – but we strongly disagree with Kime’s superlatives in Geno’s judgement. While he’s been a revelation as a centerpiece of a team that many thought would be terrible but actually remains in the NFL playoff chase with two weeks remaining, “absolutely incredible” is a stretch.
“Exceeded expectations” is hopeless, as Smith leads the NFL in completion percentage (70.7), ranks fourth in passing touchdowns (27), fifth in passer rating (102.9) and eighth in passing yards ( 3,886).
Honestly, there are several levels above what Geno is doing that the phrase “absolutely outstanding” should be reserved for. And we say reserve judgment, too, while we evaluate how contract talks and the NFL draft play out for Seattle. .
